SPORT NSW COVID-19 UPDATE – Statement

SPORT NSW COVID-19 UPDATE

The impact of coronavirus (COVID-19), both real and perceived is evolving at a rapid rate. Sport NSW is actively monitoring the latest updates on COVID-19 and will continue to provide updates to our members as they become available.

At this stage, the Australian government has placed a ban on all major events with more than 100 people. There is currently no restrictions on participating in or attending events in NSW with less than 100 people.

The Department of Education has also announced the introduction of proactive measures in schools, including the cancellation of excursions, travel and inter-school events.

A group of state and national sporting organisations are currently working through the impact of COVID-19 on community sport and recreation activities. Any updates will be provided as soon as they are available.

It is important that sporting organisations and clubs stay up to date on the latest COVID-19 information to ensure they can make informed decisions that best protect their members. The following links provide the latest updates, including information about prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Sport NSW also reminds you that personal hygiene is of paramount importance during this time, and we advise clubs and associations to be diligent with hygiene and cleaning of common areas. Shared facilities such as clubhouses, changerooms and toilets should be kept clean and adequate soap, hand sanitiser and disinfectants should be available. Encouraging participants, staff, spectators and volunteers to remain vigilant with their personal hygiene is also recommended.
